Ups and Downs in hospitality executive search

Spending your days searching for a particular person can have its ups and downs; but watching someone take to a new position like the proverbial duck to water is very satisfying. Unfortunately, things are not always so simple. There are variables that could never have been foreseen due to the simple fact that the hospitality executive search business is a people business, and people are anything but predictable.

Sometimes personalities buckle under severe pressure because of past experiences or a million other reasons. Very rarely, they just don’t fit. That is why as hospitality recruiters we are so exhaustive in our background checks and preparation. Our track record of success is pretty exemplary, but occasionally things don’t work out with a candidate.

In such cases we make every effort to replace them as soon as possible so that the hotel, casino, resort or luxury senior living facility can operate with a minimum of interruption.

Finding a match that makes the property “sing” is our goal and we don’t rest until we get the job done, even when it requires improvising and problem-solving along the way.

Finding the perfect match is a moment of celebration on a number of levels. It is wonderful to see the personalities mesh and watch your candidate become part of the fabric of the company. It’s certainly a moment of triumph for us too, when we see the fruits of our labors.

I must say it gives me a great feeling of pride when I travel to a hotel or casino a few months after having placed someone there and I can see their positive influence in the way the property is run and amongst the staff. Watching a candidate grow with a property is a remarkable feeling. In this business the many rewarding ups are worth vastly more than the occasional downs.
